Q. My stepdaughter is 4, and her real mother is constantly in and out of jail and has 86 felonies. She gets visitation every other weekend, (If she shows up). Every time our daughter comes back from her visitation she is a completely different child. When she gets home she just sits there for hours on end and won’t say anything.

A. Indeed, it is a difficult situation, though it usually happens with separated parents. In this case the child’s mom is in jail, which makes it worse. But even if the child is living with the mother and goes to meet the father he/she comes back depressed - sometimes belligerent and destructive or just in a bad mood.

Now, the question is how to overcome this problem.

First, let’s be quite clear that putting the child into some sort of therapy is very unlikely to make much of a difference. This is something that needs to be sorted out by the adults.

You would not be ridiculed for thinking that maternity clothing for women was something to be endured. There were restricted choices with a depleted range in days gone by, but things have progressed and the alternatives are almost boundless. The media can be attributed as being the unwitting instigator of change in this area, where the pregnant woman has been shown to be someone that can be both pregnant, sexy and beautiful.

Thankfully, due to the influx of maternity fashion designers, most major department stores now carry chic lines of clothing for pregnant women. Designers such as Ann Taylor, Chiarakruza and Serfontaine are making clothing designed specifically for the trendy mother-to-be. They still keep comfort in mind by designing maternity jeans with comfort stretch bands of fabric and shirts that accentuate the growing figure, while still being soft and comfortable.

Mommy moments come in all forms of days at the park, backyard BBQs, or meetings at the pool. They are a great time to get to know other mothers and share activities as well as advice. But as the number of women who live with chronic illness such as chronic fatigue syndrome and lupus continues to grow, so does the spontaneity of the fun of these mommy moments.

For example, according to the National Fibromyalgia Association, fibromyalgia (FM) experts estimate that about 10 million Americans and approximately 5 percent of the population worldwide suffer with FM, one of the fastest growing auto-immune diseases in the USA. I recently attended an adoptive mom’s playgroup and within this niche group, three out of the six of us had chronic illnesses. Being aware of a friend’s limitations and challenges, acknowledging them, and just asking questions, can make a huge impact in their ability to participate and feel comfortable with their peers.

Reading Journals

by Kerry Beck

During one of my workshops last summer, I told the audience that I have a hard time when it comes to writing the reading journals. That makes me also think my children may have a hard time writing their journals, too. Well, I need to make some changes for this year…for me & my children. For now, things are working fine. These are the things we’ve worked on.

1. Buy unique journals for each family member - I purchased mine from Staples, one for myself and each of my children.

2. Try using a small journal - My journals are about 5×7 in size. I was thinking the smaller pages would not intimidate kids in putting their thoughts into writing.

I sell bundled products….I sell a unique humor line of maternity and infant cartoon wear that match; parents can match infant for that perfect Kodak moment. I’m proud of it, and I think I should be. It’s different than anything on the market.

Did you ever wonder how the term “bundled products” received such a bad name? It all started with the milestone case of Netscape Vs. Microsoft several years back.

One of the great early car makers was the first to make bundling popular by including added features such as spare tires and automatic transmission as “all-inclusive”.

Another example of bundling is when vcr players added remote controls.

Everyone from major business newspapers to legal scholars and professors all thought the suit was a bit silly. But Netscape pressed on.

In a million years I wouldn’t even consider purchasing a pc without an OS. I don’t know anyone who would. I think Walmart tried selling some awhile but it was pretty short-winded.

Shopping for the attire is one of the best parts of getting ready for a baby. Here’s what to look for as you choose clothes for your new baby. Most experienced moms say not to buy too many newborn sizes. If this is your first child, you might be surprised how fast the little one grows. To top that off, some don’t fit into newborn sizes anyway. Best to get something that will grow and stretch with the toddler. Chances are you may receive a lot of baby clothes as gifts. It is not inappropriate to exchange them for larger sizes. It’s not a bad idea to leave the tags on the clothes until you are sure the infant can actually fit into the clothes.

There are about a million people in America that suffer from shingles disease every year. If you don’t know what shingles is, then it’s time to get informed. You or a loved one could be at risk of suffering from shingles disease.

What causes shingles?

The disease is most often associated with the chicken pox. This is because the virus varicella zoster which causes chicken pox is also the cause of shingles disease. In addition, a person can only suffer from shingles if he has had chicken pox in the past. This is because the chicken pox virus lies dormant after patient recuperation and can recur at some point in the person’s life as shingles.

Is it the same as herpes?

Another name for shingles is herpes zoster. Some other skin diseases may also carry the name herpes. Shingles disease however and some other skin diseases carrying the name herpes is not the same as genital herpes which is a sexually transmitted disease.
